Backlog Of “Over 50,000” Passport Applications According To Fianna Fail TD

According to a Fianna Fail TD, The Department of Foreign Affairs has been left with a backlog of “over 50,000” passport applications.

James Lawless, the Junior Spokesperson on Science, Technology, Research and Development says Irish passport applications are currently experiencing “big delays”.

He warns people to check their passports if they are planning a holiday in the near future.

In a statement Mr Lawless said:

“Please check your Passport.

“There are big delays for passport applications at the moment. There’s a backlog of over 50,000. This includes delays in passport express.

“If you are planning a holiday this Easter or later this summer, please check your passport. It’s quickest to renew online by logging onto passport online at www.dfa.ie.”

Earlier this morning the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed to JOE.ie that there are approximately 60,000 passport applications being processed at present.
