Extra Staff approved to help with housing list

Waterford city and county council is to get two new senior staff members in an attempt to reduce the housing list. The new positions are part of 200 new appointments approved by Environmental Minister Alan Kelly for local county councils throughout the country.

The move came in response to his pledge last November when he vowed to house 90,000 off the housing list over the next five years. At present there are 1,877 people on the Waterford housing list. Wexford is to receive two new staff as well while Cork county has been approved for one.

Cork city is in line for further  appointments. The positions will be filled by varying by grades of seniority. These will range from graduates to director of services and will include architects, engineers, planners, surveyors, housing officers and some additional clerical staff. Each county council will be treated on their individual needs.
