Invitation to the Launch of the Sligo Age Friendly Programme

Where: Clarion Hotel, Sligo

When: Wednesday 11th February, 2015

Time: 2pm – 5pm

A chance to have your say in shaping Sligo as an Age Friendly County

Keynote Speaker: Brian Leyden

The Age Friendly Programme is now running in all Local Authority areas of Ireland and has generated innovative projects and programmes that have not only benefitted communities but have also created an environment for organisations and communities to work better together. As part of the Age Friendly Programme there is a commitment from key organisations and elected members in Sligo to make Sligo an Age Friendly County with a commitment to real action and change to improve the quality of life for all in the community as they grow up and grow old in the County.

The programme is successful because it is run with older people not for older people. We need to hear from you to make sure that we are responding to real need in the community.

The event will also feature an Information Roadshow organised by Muintir Na Tíre.

We would like to hear your view across 8 key areas:

Housing and Home
Transport
Social Participation
Respect and Social Inclusion
Civic Participation and Employment
Physical Environment and Outdoor Spaces
Community Support and Health Services
Communication and Information

What we want to achieve:
We are seeking your input and views which will help to inform the Age Friendly strategy for Sligo that will aim to:

Achieve much valued improvements in quality of life, quality of service and quality of environment for older people living in Sligo
Ensure that the priorities and ambitions of all key stakeholder groups, particularly older people and their organisations, are reflected strongly in the Age Friendly strategy for Sligo
Identify mechanisms by which the older adults in Sligo can become genuine partners in the ongoing design and delivery of services in Sligo
