Pride of Place for Schools Competition

Meath County Council are inviting applications from Primary Schools throughout Meath to get involved in our new Pride of Place 2015 initiative.

Meath County Council has recently launched a School Gardening Awards Scheme under the Pride of Place for Primary Schools.

This new initiative aims to provide primary school children with the opportunity to learn about, and be active in, gardening activities. Schools can choose to be involved at three different levels and activities will include growing vegetables or flowers, learning about various plants and their importance, water conservation, composting, after school activity etc.

Schools will be assessed in May to establish if they have achieved their targets and certificates will be awarded to successful schools along with a small grant towards their garden projects.

The Council is encouraging schools to get involved in this initiative so that children, through the experience, may develop a greater sense of citizenship and care for the environment which, hopefully, will stay with them for their entire lives.

Application forms are available from the Community Section, Meath County Council (046-9097400, e-mail [email protected] or online at http://www.meath.ie/Community/PrideofPlace/PrideofPlaceforSchoolsCompetition/
