Restoration of Marlay Craft Courtyard

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have announced the Official Opening of the newly refurbished Marlay Craft Courtyard units in Marlay Park.

The Craft Courtyard is a protected structure that has been restored by the Council, and will facilitate the work of creative studios and shops in the refurbished building. Fine art, jewellery, artisan textiles, skincare and fashion, musical instruments and confectionery are all part of the courtyard’s collection. Showcasing some of ‘the best of Irish talent and craftsmanship’ in Marlay Park, Rathfarnham.

The restoration project has welcomed 15 tenants to occupy studios/shops over two floors within the courtyard. Ruairí Ó Dúlaing, Senior Parks Superintendent, recognised the opportunity the restoration has created; for some of the country’s finest craftspeople to showcase their work.

‘The restoration of the Marlay Craft Courtyard presents a significant opportunity to encourage new craft talent to set up business in this classic courtyard at Marlay Park.’

As part of Culture Night this evening, Marlay Craft Courtyard will be open from 4pm until 11pm, encouraging anyone interested in wandering through the creative space or speaking with artists to come along and do so. A performance of some Traditional Irish Music is scheduled to entertain from 6pm until 8pm this evening in the building.

A compilation of the variety of artists and craftspeople exhibiting their design products at the courtyard can be found here.
