Cavan County Council is working closely with Cóillte Teoranta to restore Killykeen Forest Park to its former glory.
For years, the park was a hugely popular amenity area attracting visitors from the local area and also from far afield. Incredibly scenic, Killykeen Forest Park is a mixed woodland park wrapped around the shores of historic Lough Oughter, and is perfect for walking and enjoying the stunning lake views.
Located just a few kilometres outside Cavan town and owned by Cóillte, the park has seen a facelift in over the last year with the addition of new walking trails, benches, signage, 3km of family cycle trails and a major road improvement on the Cavan town side.
The new cycle trails begin in the car park and are in the midst of mixed woodland on very safe paths. The park is a haven for flora and fauna, visitors might spot mallard and tufted duck with wigeon and pochard among the winter visitors.
Killykeen is renowned for course fishing and is regarded by many as one of the finest coarse fishing destinations in
Abundant with pike, bream and perch, catch returns in 2014 were amongst the best in years and Killykeen is very much a key reason as to why anglers choose to visit County Cavan.
So get out and re-discover Killykeen for yourself in 2015.
