Art and the Outdoors: A Hugh Lane Gallery Family Celebration

Following on from its success last year, the Hugh Lane Gallery is delighted to announce the return of Art and the Outdoors, its exciting two-day family art event-taking place outdoors on Parnell Square North on Saturday 30 July and Sunday 31 July 2022.

Inspired by artists who moved out of their studio to paint en plein air or out of doors the family friendly programmes includes fun and creativity from the Dublin Circus Project, artist-led drawing for all ages, an opportunity to make your own colourful paper blossoms to ’plant’ in a pop-up wildflower garden in front of the Gallery and more.

There are Poetry Bursts in conjunction with Poetry Ireland with poets Simon Costello, Eva Griffin, Enda Wyley and Peter Sirr; and a live music stage with music by Aisling Ennis – harp and Anna Cashell violin; Uilleann piper Éamonn Galldubh accompanied by Rachel Factor (harpsichord) and Lioba Petrie (cello); the Botanic String Quartet performing favourites from the Beatles to the Weekend : the Cure to Coldplay; the Derek Copley Trio presenting a lively string band setup of banjo, fiddle and guitar; and Lioba Petrie and Abigail Smith Duo.

The Gallery café Luncheonette will have a stand with home baked treats. There is something for everyone and all ages are welcome.

In tandem with Art and the Outdoors, Hugh Lane Gallery is delighted to present its inaugural city-wide exhibition of children’s art. Following a call-out invitation to children aged from junior infants to 2nd class, throughout the Dublin City Council areas, to enter Hugh Lane Gallery’s children’s art competition on the theme of What I Love About the Great Outdoors!, 52 beautiful artworks have been selected for display. They are on view at the Hugh Lane Gallery until 2 October 2022.
