As part of the latest City Engage Week 5, members of the public will be given a chance to explore the newly opened Citizen Innovation Lab Limerick. Located at the UL City Campus on Sarsfield Street, the Citizen Innovation Lab has been developed collaboratively by Limerick City and County Council and the University of Limerick as part of the +CityxChange project.
Come explore the Lab and try out the digital tools for citizen engagement in Limerick’s the clean energy transition developed within the +CityxChange project between Monday 25 April 25 until Friday 29 April.
The Citizen Innovation Lab is designed to be a place for observation, co-creation and experimentation. A place where people can take part in activities to help shape a sustainable future for the city.
Through the Citizen Innovation Lab people can work together to explore local responses to the challenges we face.
Becoming a climate-neutral city will involve new technologies, new opportunities and changes in our day-to-day lives. The goal of the Citizen Innovation Lab is to help empower people to take part, to co-create this future together.
Limerick’s City Engage Weeks form part of the +CityxChange (Positive City Exchange) Horizon 2020 project funded by the European Commission. The overall aim of the project is to create Positive Energy Districts and to influence citizen behaviour to meet the challenge of moving to a clean energy, climate-neutral and sustainable future.
Come and take a tour of the Lab, learn how your community can establish a Sustainable Energy Community or take part in Climate Fresk, a new collaborative game that aims to increase public awareness about climate change.
The +CityxChange project’s third Open Innovation Call for ideas on Social Innovation and Energy Collaboration has just been launched.
Open Innovation Calls create an opportunity to test out new ideas, prototypes, and services.
If you have an idea about how people can collaborate to reduce energy costs and Greenhouse Gas emissions – maybe by arranging energy retrofit work as a group, or setting up an energy community.

The Citizen Innovation Lab is a place where people can engage on climate action and the changes that will result from climate change.”
Sinead Hourigan, Limerick City and County Council said, “the Citizen Innovation Lab creates an opportunity for the people of Limerick and the Local Authority to come together in a meaningfully way to engage about the changes that will be necessary in the move towards a more sustainable and climate-neutral city.
