Dublin charity launches Christmas food appeal for the homeless

‘Every donation matters, no matter how big or small’

A Dublin homeless charity has launched a food appeal for those in need in the run up to Christmas.

Feed Our Homeless is appealing businesses and organisations to donate and bring some festive cheer to the vulnerable.

Families, the homeless, and the elderly who are living in food poverty can not afford to buy basic necessities and sometimes need to weigh up the cost of rent and bills against the cost of food.

The charity hopes to alleviate some of the pressure through the proceeds.

Tony Walsh, Founder of Feed Our Homeless said: “No one should encounter food poverty at any point during the year, but unfortunately it seems more prevalent during the festive period.

“We are calling on businesses and organisations to make a donation, maybe there was plans for a Christmas Party earlier in the year, that has since been cancelled, perhaps some of that budget could be put to good use to help us deliver food hampers to those most in need.

“Covid 19 has had a massive impact on us all and particularly the charity sector, all our planned fundraising and food appeals were cancelled. We are hoping to raise €10,000 worth of food which will allow our team to ensure basic food provision to those living in food poverty.

“Every donation matters, no matter how big or small. Today marks the launch of our Christmas Food Appeal campaign, we are very grateful to James and the team from J. Collins Paving and Landscaping for their contribution to our charity and being the first business to come on board with us for this campaign. We hope many others will be encouraged to follow suit.”
