Dundalk Rallies to Support Bus Éireann ‘Fill a Bus’ for Meals on Wheels Appeal

There was a fantastic local response to Bus Éireann’s second annual appeal in support of Meals on Wheels Dundalk, in conjunction with media partner LMFM last week, Thursday 19 August on the Long Walk, Dundalk.

Joanne Duffy, Services Manager for Bus Éireann, said, “we are absolutely thrilled with the success of the second Bus Éireann “Fill a Bus” appeal for Dundalk Meals on Wheels. The local community were out in force all day and I’m delighted to say that we received over 2,000 donations, exceeding all our expectations. We are extremely grateful to the people of Dundalk, these donations will be going directly to the people who need them most in our community”.

John Hennessy, Chairman of Dundalk Social Service Council/Meals on Wheels, said, “the event was an enormous success, due to the kindness of the people of Dundalk who donated so generously to our campaign. We very much appreciate the support for our service and on behalf of all our Meals on Wheels volunteers I extend our heartfelt thanks. Many thanks to Bus Éireann for affording us the opportunity to host this campaign and to LMFM Radio”.

Meals on Wheels Dundalk was established in 1972 and supports the vulnerable, elderly and housebound in the area with 240 meals every week.

Joanne Duffy continued, “we are very proud of all our Bus Éireann colleagues and Station Manager Mick McKeown for lending their support to this worthy cause. Bus Éireann connects people to who and what matters to them, we look forward to continuing this connection with the community here in Dundalk who make up some of the two million passengers that travel with us in the North East every year.”

Bus Éireann operates 14 Expressway services daily from Dundalk to Dublin Airport (Route 100X) along with 67 daily Dundalk town services and 46 rural daily departures.
