EPIC Voted Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction in World Travel Awards 2021

The Irish Emigration Museum (EPIC) added the 2021 World Travel Award for Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction to the Museum – their third year to win the title. EPIC museum is now the first Tourist Attraction in Europe to have won the Award Title three years in a row.

The museum won the award ahead of such iconic and world class sites as Sagrada Família, Spain, The Acropolis of Athens, Greece, The Roman Colosseum, Italy and Buckingham Palace, England. The support of those who voted is a wonderful endorsement of the creativity, dedication and hard work of all the museum’s teams, especially over the past twelve months.

Patrick Greene, CEO and Museum Director of EPIC, commented on the win, “we are very proud to accept the title of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for the third year in a row. It is testament to the resilience, creativity and commitment of all our staff to providing a world class experience. Being recognised by our visitors, neighbours and stakeholders in voting for us to win this title ahead of so many iconic landmarks really is a boost in the times we are in and for Irish tourism. We continue to honour the diaspora abroad and recognise the vital contributions that Irish people have made worldwide. Thank you to the thousands of people who have voted for us.”

Catherine Martin, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media has said, “I wish to congratulate EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum on their third win of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards. Irish creativity, culture and community is showcased excellently in their Museum. Their commitment to providing quality educational events, to hosting exhibitions uncovering lesser known stories of the Irish Diaspora and to giving visitors a world class experience lies at the heart of their win. EPIC is an excellent cultural ambassador within and for Ireland. This is a win for EPIC, for Dublin and for Irish Tourism.”

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland has said, “congratulations to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum on being named Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for the third year in a row. As we prepare to restart tourism from overseas, this is really good news. It is a truly well-deserved accolade. Since opening its doors in 2016, EPIC has established itself as an important attraction on the itineraries of international visitors to Dublin. This latest award will give Tourism Ireland another wonderful platform to continue to highlight Dublin and Ireland around the world as a world-class destination. We look forward to continuing to work closely with the team at EPIC in 2022 and beyond, to welcome back our overseas visitors, coming to experience all that EPIC and our great city of Dublin have to offer.”

Liz Halpin, Head of Dublin Region, Fáilte Ireland has said, “Fáilte Ireland is pleased that EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum has retained its title as Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction at World Travel Awards for the third year running. The EPIC Museum offers a unique and immersive insight into the fascinating story of Irish emigration showing how the Irish influenced and shaped the world.
