Riverfest Limerick will get off to a spectacular start this weekend with a special flyover by the Air Corps. All eyes will be firmly fixed to the skies above Limerick from 1.30pm on Friday 29 April for the flyover which will feature a coordinated low formation flight display by the highly skilled Air Corps Cadets, marking the start of the first in-person Riverfest since 2019.
The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Daniel Butler will welcome the flyover high up in the turret in King John’s Castle, and weather permitting the aircraft will tip their wings in salute.
The best viewing points will be anywhere along the Three Bridges route from 1.30pm on Friday.
The flyover is the first of three public events on offer by the Irish Defence Forces for Riverfest Limerick.
Limerick will also be home to the LÉ James Joyce for Riverfest weekend.
Irish Naval Vessel LÉ JAMES JOYCE is to arrive in Limerick at 6pm on Friday 29 April, flanked by a welcoming flotilla of recreational boats from Foynes Yacht Club, the Royal Western Yacht Club of Ireland and the Golden Globe Race Yacht sailed by Limerick man Pat Lawless.
LÉ JAMES JOYCE will moor at Limerick Docks throughout the weekend and members of the public are invited on board for free tours of the ship’s upper decks and main bridge from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 01 May.
This is the first time a P60 type Naval vessel will dock in Limerick, and will remain in place throughout the weekend before departing down the Shannon Estuary at high tide on Monday 02 May.
The best viewing points for the ship’s arrival are Steamboat Quay, Barrington’s Pier and Shannon Bridge and viewing points along the Shannon Estuary. Visits are taking place throughout Saturday and Sunday.

And for those who don’t have their sea legs, the Irish Army will be showcasing some of their skills at Harvey’s Quay (Sat) and Bedford Row (Sun).
A tri-service military display to include APC- MOWAG armoured vehicle, weapons and information/ recruitment stands.
The Engineering Corps will be active from a base at the Harvey’s Quay Pontoon and will hold a river based demonstration throughout the day on Saturday.
