PROJECT DETAILS

2Mw Wind Turbine has been installed by Enerpower at Kepak in North Condonstown, Watergrasshill in Co. Cork. The installation of this turbine is part of the commitment from Kepak to cut their carbon footprint intensity by 2030 as committed to as  part of their 2019 Sustainability report.

Wind energy provides a clean and sustainable solution for energy and can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels in generating electricity without the direct emissions of greenhouse gases.

The wind turbine has a hub height of 67 meters and a blade diameter of 80 meters. A roadway was also constructed to provide connectivity to a nearby on site  substation. This 2Mw wind turbine will generate up to 4,000,000KWh annually.

A 350,000l hot water tank will ensure that excess electricity goes to immersion heaters.

This turbine will provide the site with up to 70% of its energy during operating hours and will be used to heat water out of hours. Overall Kepak will make 1,350,000Kgs in C02 saving per year.

Wind energy is currently the largest contributing resource of renewable energy in Ireland. It is both the largest and cheapest renewable electricity resource. In 2018, in figures released by SEAI, wind provided 85% of Ireland’s renewable electricity and 30% of our total electricity demand. It is the second greatest source of electricity generation in Ireland after natural gas.
