Kildare County Council last month launched a brand new alert system for residents of the county that will alert people about such things as severe weather, road works, road closures, water service disruptions, flooding and community events.
The MapAlerter app is free to download and users will be then alerted to updates via text message or email.
The service is already working successfully in a number of counties, Carlow, CorkCounty, Donegal, Fingal, Kilkenny, Limerick, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary, Waterford City and Wexford.
