Mayo County Council’s Housing Delivery Action Plan Podcast With Tom Gilligan

On this week’s podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking about Mayo County Council’s Housing Delivery Action Plan with Tom Gilligan, Director of Services at Mayo County Council.

Tom is responsible for housing, roads, procurement, efficiency, services development and the Ballina Municipal District for the Council, where he has worked for the past eight years. He is also the founder of VacantHomes.ie, a national housing initiative developed to get empty and derelict homes back into use.

Under the Housing for All policy document, published in September 2021, all housing authorities were obliged to prepare a Housing Delivery Action Plan for its area covering the years 2022 to 2026. The Mayo County Council Housing Delivery Action Plan contains proposed social housing construction projects, where they are to be located and a timeframe in line with individual authority targets under Housing for All.

In this podcast hosted by our Council CEO Máirtín Breathnach, Tom discusses the work that Mayo County Council are doing under their Housing Delivery Action Plan until 2026.

Tom highlights the progress made to date when it comes to social and affordable housing across the County and the plans to meet targets set by the Housing for All policy. Furthermore, he stresses the importance that vacant homes play in the Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan and how we can bring more empty properties back into use.
