New Drop-In Centre for Older People in Cavan Town

The Cavan Older People’s Forum, along with support from Cavan County Council will co-ordinate a new Drop-In centre for older people in Cavan Town.

This will take place in the Events Space of the Johnston Central Library and will be held every Monday morning, from11:30am to 1pm. This will be open to all older members of the public to attend and no booking is required.

For the first six weeks Information Sessions will be delivered at the Drop-In Centre by various service providers and community organisations. This will provide an opportunity for older people to obtain information on vital services available to them and provide an opportunity for them to ask detailed questions and obtain clarifications.

These sessions will start at 11:30am and will run as follows:

9th February   Social Welfare Entitlement for Older People:  Citizens Information

16th February  Crime Prevention and Safety Measures:  An Garda Síochána

23rd February   Dementia / Alzheimer’s: Cavan Alzheimer’s Association

2nd March  Home Help packages: Health Service Executive

9th March   Active for Life: Age and Opportunity

16th March  Carer Stress and Minding Yourself: Cavan and Monaghan Carers Association

The Drop-In Centre is free to attend and the information sessions will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity to socialise.
The Drop-In Centre is a project being implemented through the Cavan Town Age Friendly Project. After wide spread consultations with older people living within Cavan Town this was one of the key things that older people said they would like to see being initiated within the town.

The first six weeks of the Drop-In Centre will be delivered on a pilot basis in conjunction with the information sessions. Further activities to take place in the Drop-In Centre once the information sessions are completed can be planned in consultation with the participants attending the Drop-In Centre and the Cavan Older Persons Forum.
