All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. But music can help. From time to time, it helps to have a little bit of music in the background while hard at work.
Here, we’ve included a list of the top five albums to listen to while on the job.
1. Back in Black – AC/DC
This one is a gimme. Written in 1980 after the untimely death of singer Bon Scott, the Australian rockers returned to form with new vocalist Brian Johnson to write classics like ‘You shook me all night long’, ‘Hell’s bells’, and of course, the title track. Listen to this one and nod along.
2. The River – Bruce Springsteen
1980 was a great year for albums to work to. Potentially The Boss’s greatest work, The River, saw Springsteen pen tunes like ‘Hungry Heart’, ‘Fade Away’, and ‘I Wanna Marry You’. Stadiums full of people have been singing along ever since. Rolling Stone even ranked this at number 253 on their list of the greatest albums of all time.
3. The Wall – Pink Floyd
‘We don’t need no education! No dark sarcasm in the classroom!’ Pink Floyd’s seminal effort, The Wall, comes in at number three on our list. At a whopping 80 minutes in length, this behemoth of a double album treats you to gems like ‘Comfortably Numb’, ‘Run Like Hell’, and of course ‘Another Brick in the Wall’. The accompanying video is also not to be missed.
4. Thriller – Michael Jackson
Another gem from the eighties. Long before his personal life became tabloid fodder, MJ released a series of fantastic albums. The thrilling video for Jackson’s biggest hit enraptured audiences in 1982, and still does so today. And songs like ‘PYT’, ‘Billie Jean’, ‘Beat it’? This album just keeps on giving. Put this on in the background and let MJ’s voice make your day all the better.
5. (What’s the story?) Morning Glory – Oasis
These Manchester boys can play, that’s for sure. Borrowing from the pop sensibilities of The Beatles and adding a rock and roll touch, brothers Noel and Liam make number five on our list with their 1995 effort. Pop it on while on the job, and ‘Roll With It’.
