Winter Events in Dublin

Dublin is all dressed up and ready to celebrate. The stage is set, live acts are primed to return for passionate performances, and the lively social whirl is back for winter events in Dublin.

The doors have been thrown wide open, and the red carpet rolled out. With events and excitement to be found throughout winter in Dublin, there’s always something to see and do in the capital. But with a glittering selection box of theatre, comedy, music, pantomime and more to choose from, this year winter in Dublin has a special sparkle all its own.

Halloween

Hometown of author Bram Stoker and inspiration for his novel ‘Dracula’, what better place to spend Halloween than Dublin? From gentle surprises to genuine shocks, there are plenty of great ‘spooky season’ treats (and tricks) in store.

Travel Around the World at Dublin Zoo with their after-dark adventure, Wild Lights. Explore the ancient Egyptian pyramids, take a romantic stroll by the Eiffel Tower and head for outer space – all as you wander through hundreds of giant glowing silk lanterns. For horror fans, The Nightmare Realm at the RDS needs fresh victims. Survive a terrifying run-in with the Red Woman in an abandoned village, or shriek your way through the Panic Attack house. With some proper scares, this is for over 13s.

Live in the City

Live entertainment in Dublin is back with a bang. Running throughout November, get up close and feel the electricity of in-person shows once again in venues throughout the capital. Big gigs, intimate concerts, stand-up comedy, sport, theatre, literature and more are bringing back the buzz. ‘Live’ is returning to our lives in a big way. Check out the what’s on listings for further details of the many events turning the spotlights back on in Dublin’s venues.

The Festive Season

From a magically lit-up Trinity College to amazing animations on the Samuel Beckett Bridge, the darkest nights are brightened by Winter Lights. In 2021, the theme is Dublin’s Winter Wildlife, and we’re eager to see what luminous creatures appear. Wonderlights at Malahide Castle and Gardens provides further delight after sunset, as the stunning grounds fill with immersive enchantment for all ages.

Take in one of Dublin’s epic pantomimes. Stroll under the shimmering lights on Henry and Grafton Streets and soak up the hustle and bustle of shoppers hurrying home with their treasurer. Pick up everything on your gift list, or just gaze in wonder at the elaborate window displays at Arnotts and Brown Thomas. Come New Year’s Eve, ring in 2022 at the NYF Dublin New Year’s Festival. Stirring live music, a brilliant light show and a jaw-dropping firework display will begin the New Year in style.

TradFest

Each January, music fans flock to Dublin for toe-tapping tunes and sing-along sessions in standout venues, from cosy pubs to beautiful churches to iconic Dublin Castle.

In 2022, as TradFest lyrically say themselves “We’re bringing it back, we’re turning the page. Live music is coming, and Trad’s taking centre stage…” as Dublin welcomes audiences again with open arms. There will be lots of other events taking place across the city too, making January particularly joyous this year.
