Fingal Libraries Celebrates Creative Writing with Write Time Festival This September

This September, Fingal Libraries will celebrate creative writing with the annual Write Time Festival, now in its eighth year. Free workshops and author talks to spark the imagination and inspire creativity will take place in Fingal Libraries throughout the month.

The programme for this year’s Write Time Festival was launched at Balbriggan Library by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Adrian Henchy. The Mayor was joined by the Deputy Chief Executive of Fingal County Council Ethna Felten, County Librarian Betty Boardman, Festival Curator Anne McDonald, and renowned authors Sam Blake, Kevin Curran and Kevin McCarthy.

Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Adrian Henchy said, “the Write Time Festival has established itself as a much-anticipated celebration of creativity and writing in Fingal. If you would like to make a start on a short story, personal reflection or even a novel, the range of free events will provide you with inspiration and guidance for your writing journey.”

Deputy Chief Executive of Fingal County Council Ethna Felten said, “the Write Time Festival has something to offer everybody interested in the craft of writing. Whether you are an aspiring writer, or a reader interested in finding out what inspires your favourite authors, this festival is for you.”

County Librarian Betty Boardman said, “Fingal Libraries Write Time festival has engaged people in accessible creative activities throughout Fingal for many years now. We are delighted with its continuing success and look forward to this year’s festival. We would like to extend our gratitude to Festival Curator Anne McDonald for producing a very appealing programme of events.”

Creative Director of the festival, Anne McDonald added, “we are delighted to present a fantastic, diverse group of facilitators for the Write Time Festival 2023. The programme is packed with a range of events to inspire you to write – meet published, working authors, discover the craft of writing short stories and explore your options for getting published.”

Workshops range from using art as inspiration, to beginning your novel, crafting memoir, submitting your writing to magazines and publications, and taking your idea from the abstract to a crafted piece of writing. In the ‘Words with Writers’ series, six amazing writers will be sharing their creative writing process, their journey to publication, and the many challenges and supports they encountered along the way.

Most of the events will take place in your local library, with some taking place online via zoom. Writers taking part in this year’s festival include Sam Blake, Jane Buckley, Kevin Curran, Damien B. Donnelly, Derek Flynn, Maria Hoey, Pam Lecky, Felicia McCarthy, Joanne McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Karl MacDermott, Peig McManus, Fiona O’Rourke, Paddy Osborne, and Yvonne Reddin. Sign up, come along, and be inspired by people you meet, and the stories you hear at the many free events spread throughout the month of September.
