Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach, and Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (dlr) hopped on their bikes to officially launch Bike Week 2023.
This exciting week-long event will take place from Saturday, May 13th, until Sunday, May 21st, with a range of activities and events located across the County to celebrate and promote the benefits of cycling.
Cyclists of all ages and abilities are invited to join in the many events on offer, from inclusive cycling demonstrations and children’s learn-to-cycle workshops to parent and child cycle workshops, women only cycling workshops, and more. There will be bike safety checks, bike tattoos, bike accessory giveaways, and even a disco cycle!

Speaking at the launch Councillor Mary Hanafin, Cathaoirleach said, “this year’s Bike Week events aim to encourage cyclists of all ages and abilities to enjoy our beautiful County. There are a number of fun inclusive events designed to enable people young and old to experience some of the many benefits of cycling. I would encourage people to join in throughout the week as we have events catering for all levels, from the complete beginner to the seasoned cyclist.”
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council commented, “Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is dedicated to cultivating a cycling culture in the County by encouraging all members of the community to cycle at all life stages and abilities as a mode of sustainable transport that delivers environmental, health, and economic benefits to both the individual and the community.”
The aim of dlr Bike Week is to engage people of all age and abilities, with events across the County to include:

All events organised by dlr and independent parties are free; however, places are limited for some events and advanced booking is recommended.
