IRONKIDS Returns to Cork as Registration Opens

In 2023, Cork will once again host IRONKIDS Ireland, where thousands of children will go through their paces through the town for a chance to finish under the iconic IRONMAN Ireland finish arch. IRONKIDS Ireland takes place Friday, 18 August 2023 with registration for the 2023 IRONKIDS Ireland event opening Wednesday, 14 December 2022 at 14:00 BST.

The event sees children between the ages of 4 to 15 take part in in a run of various distances. With the 4 – 5-year-old age group category taking on a 500m run, 6 – 10-year olds taking on a 1km run, and 11 – 15-year olds taking on a 1.5km run. All participants who complete their distances receive a finisher’s medal and finisher’s T-shirt.

John Wallnutt, IRONMAN IRELAND Race Director, said, “this is one of my favorite events on our race calendar. No times are taken, with the emphasis being on participation and enjoying a healthy, active lifestyle. Every child is made to feel like a winner simply by participating and finishing. It is terrific to see so many kids getting outside and participating in a healthy activity and enjoying every moment. Hopefully this inspires the kids to adopt a healthier lifestyle from a young age and maybe even to one day emulate their IRONMAN heroes.”

Entries are traditionally sold out within the first month of registration opening, which is one of the indications of how popular the event is. Registration opens at 14:00 this Wednesday, 14 December, at www.ironman.com/im-ireland.

Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr. Danny Collins commented, “IRONKIDS 2022 race in Youghal was the start of a very memorable weekend in August 2022. IRONKIDS is all about participation and encouraging children towards a healthy, active lifestyle. As the emphasis is on fun and participation, every child is a winner.”

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey stated that, “as Host Sponsors, Cork County Council is looking forward to welcoming athletes from all over the world to Youghal and East Cork in August 2023. The IRONKIDS event on the Friday evening will be a fantastic start to what will be another truly memorable weekend in East Cork.”

The IRONMAN Ireland race weekend will kick off on Friday, 18 August with IRONKIDS Ireland taking centre stage, followed by IRONMAN 70.3 Cork, with the weekend concluding on the Sunday with 2000 IRONMAN Ireland athletes taking on a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run.
