Limerick City and County Council has been named Local Authority of the Year 2023 at the twentieth annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards.
The overall award recognised the Council’s extensive work in promoting Limerick as a positive, inclusive and sustainable place to live, work, visit and invest.
The prestigious awards are held in association with the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. They recognise and celebrate the outstanding work being carried out by Local Authorities all over Ireland.
Two Limerick City and County Council projects also won awards: Student Planners: Inspiring Future Generations and Limerick on Foot. Eight more projects were shortlisted for awards.
Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell congratulated the Council on their success, said, “being named Local Authority of the Year 2023 is a resounding endorsement of the hard work being done every day by the management and staff at Limerick City and County Council. They are at the forefront of driving Limerick’s economic growth and improving the quality of life for every citizen. This is another example of the different kind of energy that is setting Limerick apart.”
