American multinational company Equinix, Inc. has today announced the purchase of a €5 million site in Ballycoolin, Dublin.
Equinix, Inc. is one of the most connected data centers in the world, specialising in internet connection and related services. The Californian based company has acquired a site of 8.2 acres in Ballycoolin, with potential for Equinix to further expand as the Irish data centre industry continues to grow. The move is a strategic one by the global tech giant, to position itself ‘at the heart of Ireland’s digital economy.’ The investment supervenes findings by Equinix that Irish enterprises are anticipating an average growth of 72% in their volumes of data over the next three years.
Managing Director for Ireland and Emerging Markets, Maurice Mortell, emphasised the value of the investment by Equinix: ‘We are where multinationals and Irish companies meet and collaborate digitally. We offer customers direct connectivity to more than 200 data centres in 52 markets. We are enabling digital business in Ireland.’
