Waterford Alive with the Sound of Music Generation

Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Joe Conway welcomed SoundCrowd to the Theatre Royal Waterford as part of Music Generation.

SoundCrowd is an exciting youth music festival hosted by Music Generation Waterford and Music Generation Carlow.  The four-day residential event sees young musicians from all across Ireland and Germany showcasing their talent and passion for music.

In his first official function as the new Mayor of Waterford City & County, Cllr. Conway said, “it’s a great pleasure to attend SoundCrowd ’23 and witness first-hand the music, the effort and the hard work you all have put in over the last while to produce this show. This diverse gathering truly reflects the power of music, transcending borders and language barriers, reminding us that music is a universal language that speaks to the core of every one of us.”

SoundCrowd Artistic Director is Issie Barratt, internationally recognised musician and educator, listed on BBC Radio 4 Power List as one of the 40 most influential women in the music industry along with Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Nicola Benedetti.

Locally Music Generation Waterford is run by Music Development Officer Shauna McCullough and a team of 19 musician educators and is made possible locally through funding from Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board and Waterford City and County Council.

Music Generation Waterford and Carlow provide access to music education in schools and community setting reaching over 7,500 young people weekly, providing them with invaluable opportunities to explore the world of music in schools and in the community.
